June brings the 2009-2010 school year to a conclusion with several academic and extra-curricular events.
Final exams will be administered to students in the upper grades beginning the week of the 7th for Grade 8 and the week of the 14th for Grades 5 through 7. The written component of the New York State Science Exam is given to our fourth and eighth graders on June 7th. The eighth graders are also taking the State Social Studies Exam on the 14th and 15th of the month.
All students in Grades 3 through 8 will take the Archdiocesan Religion Exam on June 9th.
Once all of their test-taking is completed, the eighth graders have a number of graduation activities to look forward to including a dinner dance on June 4th and a graduation Mass and reception slated for the evening of June 11th. In addition, there will be a graduation Mass for the entire school followed by a slide show highlighting the events of the past year at St. Margaret School.
The graduating class will walk through our corridors for the last time as SMS students on June 17th when the Long Bell rings for them. This is a tradition that is bittersweet for all of us at the school. We are happy that the eighth graders are beginning a new chapter in their lives, and, yet, we know that they will miss us as much as we will miss them.
I pray that once all of us leave St. Margaret's for summer vacation we will feel happy and satisfied with all that we have accomplished during this extraordinary year.
